Up From Liberalism

"I will not cede more power to the state. I will not willingly cede more power to anyone, not to the state, not to General Motors, not to the CIO. I will hoard my power like a miser, resisting every effort to drain it away from me. I will then use my power, as I see fit. I mean to live my life an obedient man, but obedient to God, subservient to the wisdom of my ancestors; never to the authority of political truths arrived at yesterday at the voting booth. That is a program of sorts, is it not? It is certainly program enough to keep conservatives busy, and liberals at bay. And the nation free."

Thanksgiving Prayer

The fact that Thanksgiving joins European and Native American cultures has been over looked for far too long. With each observance of this uniquely American holiday, we should revere and bless both Christan and Native American tenants that have sustained us all in this blessed land. More info on the first Thanksgiving can be found here

Thanksgiving Prayer

We return thanks to our mother, the earth, which sustains us.

We return thanks to the rivers and streams, which supply us with water.

We return thanks to all herbs, which furnish medicines for the cure of our diseases.

We return thanks to the moon and stars, which have given to us their light when the sun was gone.

We return thanks to the sun, that has looked upon the earth with a beneficent eye.

Lastly, we return thanks to the Great Spirit, in Whom is embodied all goodness, and Who directs all things for the good of Her children.

Salute to Jim Broussard

Yesterday in Reno NV, a Mexican gin joint was flying the Mexican flag above the Stars and Stripes.
While the TV crew was filming this disgraceful act of war, a US armed forces veteran named Jim Broussard struck both flags from the pole and left with our flag.

I offer my heart felt thanks to Mr. Broussard for his courage and faithfull service to our country!
He has clearly taken to heart the oath that he swore upon entering active duty.

God Bless!

Car alarm safety tip

If you have a panic button on your car remote, you can use it as a home alarm as well:
1) From your bedroom, hit the panic button to verify that it will sound the alarm.
2) When you go to bed keep your car keys on your night stand.
3) If you hear a threat, just hit the panic button. There is a good chance this will scare off the threat.

Take care,

Joe

Pray for Makrameh Ebrahimi

She will be killed by the Iranian government tomorrow for the crime of having a child out of wedlock 11 years ago. Free Republic thread here
Tehran, 20 June (AKI) - Makrameh Ebrahimi on Thursday will be stoned to death in a square in front of the cemetery of Takestan, in Ghazvin province some 100 km from Tehran, for having had a child out of wedlock 11 years ago, women's rights groups in Iran said. The Islamic Republic denies issuing stoning death sentences and carrying them out. Thursday's is the first death sentence by stoning to be publicly announced and rights groups say the population has been invited to participate and throw stones.

Let Us Now Try Liberty

I offer the work of the French Libertiarian Basait in 1850:
Let Us Now Try Liberty

God has given to men all that is necessary for them to accomplish their destinies. He has provided a social form as well as a human form. And these social organs of persons are so constituted that they will develop themselves harmoniously in the clean air of liberty. Away, then, with quacks and organizers! Away with their rings, chains, hooks, and pincers! Away with their artificial systems! Away with the whims of governmental administrators, their
socialized projects, their centralization, their tariffs, their government schools, their state religions, their free credit, their bank monopolies, their regulations, their restrictions, their equalization by taxation, and their pious moralizations!

And now that the legislators and do-gooders have so futilely inflicted so many systems upon society, may they finally end where they should have begun: May they reject all systems, and try liberty; for liberty is an acknowledgment of faith in God and His works.

"But how is this legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime." The Law

Competitive Discovery

Bastiat understood that free-market competition was a "dynamic discovery procedure," to use a Hayekian phrase, in which individuals strove to coordinate their plans to achieve their economic goals. All forms of government intervention interrupt and distort that process because once a law or regulation is issued, "the people no longer need to discuss, to compare, to plan ahead; the law does all this for them. Intelligence becomes a useless
prop for the people; they cease to be men; they lose their personality, their liberty, their property." Russell, Ideas and Influence, p. 11.

On Limited Government

Our constitution is in taters. We continue move away from the core principle of liberty, granted by God not man. I offer the observations of Thomas Jefferson:
"If Congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the General Welfare, the Government is no longer a limited one, possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one, subject to particular exceptions.
..."Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but only those specifically enumerated."
-- Thomas Jefferson

The one legged guy at the Mobil gas station...

There was a guy who worked at the Mobil station near my workplace in DC. He was sans a leg and did a very good job of working with his disability. One day I worked up the nerve to ask him what happened to his leg. I was expecting a "it got shot off in the war" type story. He explained that he had a broken leg and he had a cast on it when he went water-skiing. He wiped out the leg flew up and smacked him in the head knocking him out. I asked "Did the leg come off then" he said "no but it was mangled beyond repair and they had to amputate".

Boortz on prostitution

Neal Boortz has got the left in a rage over his comments about the plight of a hurricane Katrina evacuee who is holed up in a hotel in Atlanta. He all but suggested that she turn to prostitution as possible career choice Boortz said, “If that's the only way she can take care of herself, it sure beats the hell out of sucking off the taxpayers.” See their reaction here.

IMO Boortz is spot on. An able-bodied person, whose sole source of income is government handouts, is a thief. Remember these handouts are underwritten by funds taken from other citizens by force. By definition the middlemen in the transaction (politicians) are thieves as well. I respect whoring more than the thieving. Quiz: Identify the article, clause or amendment in the Constitution of the United States of America that: 1) authorizes the aforementioned thieving or 2) outlaws whoring.

An insightful blast from the past from Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850) a French economist and statesman on the topic of legal plunder: "But how is this legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime.

Then abolish this law without delay, for it is not only an evil itself, but also it is a fertile source for further evils because it invites reprisals. If such a law -- which may be an isolated case -- is not abolished immediately, it will spread, multiply, and develop into a system.

The person who profits from this law will complain bitterly, defending his acquired rights. He will claim that the state is obligated to protect and encourage his particular industry; that this procedure enriches the state because the protected industry is thus able to spend more and to pay higher wages to the poor workingmen.

Do not listen to this sophistry by vested interests. The acceptance of these arguments will build legal plunder into a whole system. In fact, this has already occurred. The present-day delusion is an attempt to enrich everyone at the expense of everyone else; to make plunder universal under the pretense of organizing it."
Amen!

Is the media Stuck on Stupid?

I have a new hero; Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, the commander of the 1st Army, based at Fort Gillem in Forest Park, Georgia, outside Atlanta. President Bush sent him to kick ass in New Orleans during Katrina. Well during a press conference on 21 September called by the incompetent New Orleans Mayor Nagin, Honore opened a whole can of whoop-ass on a dumbass MSNBC report. Here is the video of the hapless reporter who was clearly Stuck on Stupid.

Should the federal government offer charity to Katrina victims?

I agree with Walter E. Williams, per the Constitution of The United States,it is not permissible for the federal government to aid disaster victims.

I got a response from my aunt about this post. She asked if this was a joke. Here is my reply:
No joke, The key words are Charity, federal, government, and Constitution.
The Williams article points out that our leaders in the past understood the problems involved in using taxpayer dollars to provide charity to others.
I have full faith and confidence in the American people and our ability to help those in need. I don't however, believe it is the Federal Government's role to do so on our behalf. IMO the US Constitution is very clear on the point.
When I enlisted in the US Army, I took an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the United States and I will continue to do so. It needs defending now more than ever.
